Somana Kunita is a celebratory dance predominant in south Karnataka. The performers are mostly men and are called somas and wear colourful masks as part of the performance. The dance is performed to appease the local village deity, the Mother Goddess. The somas are considered to be the guardians of the Mother Goddess. It is usually performed in Mysore, Tumakur, Mandya, Hassan, and Bangalore.
